about

Over the Thanksgiving Holiday, I was headed north to see my folks. It gets much colder there than in Nashville and as I was getting closer, it began to snow. The sun had already gone down, so the snowflakes where drifting through my headlights. I had to detour off the interstate, and as I knew the area, I decided to cut through the back country.

When I stopped for some gas, the snow had become that soft fluffy first snow of the season. It was late enough that most people were already at home for the evening. It suddenly hit me how quiet it was. That strange silence of cold and snow that had a glow all it's own, and that only added to the holiday lights casting a cheerful glow through the veil of snowflakes.

As I drove through this snowy landscape, the lyrics just kind of wrote themselves. When I got to mom and dad's, I gave them each a hug and sat down in the kitchen and wrote out the lyrics and the melody that had been running through my head. I played it for them on acoustic guitar a little later. They liked it and I hope you do too. For all of you “Headed Home” in this holiday season. Safe travels...!

lyrics

Headed Home

Night holds an ethereal silence, a hush in the frosty cold air
Holiday lights grace the towns and the country side, casting a glow everywhere

Through the
Snow flakes drifting silently down
Snow flakes drifting as I'm headed home
To familiar places with family and friends
I've been away for too long...
But I'm headed home through snow flakes drifting silently down
I'm headed home through snow flakes drifting silently down
Headed home...

Warm light from windows cast golden rectangles like gifts on fresh fallen snow
Doors decorated with holly and evergreen welcoming family home

Through the
Snow flakes drifting silently down
Snow flakes drifting as I'm headed home
To familiar places with family and friends
I've been away for too long...
But I'm headed home through snow flakes drifting silently down
I'm headed home through snow flakes drifting silently down
Headed home...

Gone all this time, but as I get closer, I feel a joy in the air
Loved even when home seemed so very far away, now I'm almost there

Through the
Snow flakes drifting silently down
Snow flakes drifting as I'm headed home
To familiar places with family and friends
I haven't seen in so long...
But I'm headed home through snow flakes drifting silently down
I'm headed home through snow flakes drifting silently down
I'm headed home
Headed home...

about

Reuben Brock Nashville, Tennessee

I always knew I was destined to be a traveler and a collector of stories. My songs are the music I hear in my head that seems to me to have been a part of the stories all along. For the traveler, there's always the familiar, restless pull...the long road that awaits and yet flows into the past.

The first single release from the upcoming Reuben Brock DAMAGE studio album is NAIL AND HAMMER.
